Groundcare Landscape Company launches Riego, a dedicated irrigation service for Los Angeles County

October 12, 2026

Groundcare Landscape Company, a Burbank landscape company serving Los Angeles County since 1982, has launched Riego, a service dedicated entirely to irrigation. Riego works with HOAs, commercial and industrial properties, schools and campuses, and estates on irrigation audits, water management, repair, and smart system upgrades.

Riego is Spanish for irrigation. The new service is online at riego.la.

Why a dedicated irrigation service

On many properties, irrigation is handled as one small part of landscape maintenance. Meanwhile water costs keep rising, local rules in nearly all of Los Angeles County prohibit irrigation runoff onto sidewalks and streets, and many systems were installed decades ago for landscapes that have since changed. The result is wasted water, repeated repairs, and water bills that are hard to explain to an owner or a board.

Most landscape care, even with expert-level horticulture knowledge, lacks the technical expertise to manage an irrigation system, and the processes to do it consistently and on time, so that each garden type receives the appropriate amount of water. Getting that right is what produces water savings and long-term garden health.

Riego focuses on that gap: finding what is wrong with a system, fixing it properly, and keeping it working.

“After years of working at some of LA’s most beautiful commercial and residential gardens, where we had to perform at a high level, we realized how important irrigation management is, and how rare it is for customers to have it serviced well,” said Alex Salazar, a partner at Groundcare Landscape Company.

What Riego does

  • Irrigation audits. Riego tests the timer, wiring, and valves, runs every zone, and delivers a zone-by-zone report with repair and modification suggestions. Audits start at $500.
  • Water management. Water budgets, schedules matched to each area, programming assurance around a property’s preferences or a school’s class schedule, and grow-in programs for new plantings and reseeded fields.
  • Repair. Valves, mainlines, wiring, controllers, and backflow testing and repair, with a 24-hour response and a one-year warranty on repair work.
  • Smart upgrades. Smart Wi-Fi controllers from Hunter and HydroPoint, two-wire systems, water-efficient retrofits such as drip conversion, and wireless valve connections.

Ongoing care, with reporting

Beyond one-time work, Riego offers monthly and quarterly audits and monthly flow and system health reports, including wireless connection uptime. The reports are written to be shared with property owners, managers, and HOA boards.

Riego works alongside a property’s existing landscape contractor, landscape service, or in-house crew. Clients do not need to change who maintains their landscape.

Licensed and certified

Riego is backed by Groundcare’s California C-27 landscaping contractor license, #1007256. The team includes CLCA Certified Water Managers and QWEL-certified (Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper) professionals.

Recent work

At Totally Kids, a children’s clinic on La Tuna Canyon in Sun Valley, Riego audited an aging system that still relied on old brass sprinklers, converted those areas to drip tubing, installed a Hunter HCC controller and a flow meter, and brought the system back into working order. Rebates

LADWP commercial customers can apply through the SoCal Water$mart program for rebates on weather-based controllers, high-efficiency nozzles, flow sensors, and master valves. Riego checks current eligibility for each property before any purchase.

Riego serves Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, La Cañada Flintridge, San Marino, Beverly Hills, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, and the wider San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys.
